Transgeracionalidade em mulheres descendentes de imigrantes italianos da Serra Gaúcha

Abstract

With the aim of conducting an in-depth analysis of the same family, expanding the scope of transmission to three generations of women, the general objective of this study was to identify some aspects of the process of transgenerationality in women from families descending from Italian immigrants in Serra Gaúcha, investigating the experiences lived in three different generations of the same family. This is a qualitative study using a multiple case study design, with three participating families, based on systemic theoretical support. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant, totaling nine women descended from Italian immigrants residing in Rio Grande do Sul, more specifically in the city of Antônio Prado, located in Serra Gaúcha. The data collected were analyzed using thematic content analysis as proposed by Braun and Clarke (2006). This methodology, characterized by its accessibility and theoretical flexibility, allows for an in-depth investigation of qualitative data, providing rich and detailed descriptions. Thematic analysis involves the identification, analysis, and presentation of patterns (themes) present in the data, organizing and describing them in a meticulous manner. The data analysis revealed three central themes in the participants' narratives: Food, Religion, and Femininity. The results indicate that family transmission processes vary significantly between families, even though there are common dynamics. For women, these transformations are even more pronounced. The family, traditionally structured and reproduced in a certain way, has undergone significant changes in recent decades, due to the new roles assumed by women in society, which has directly impacted family dynamics. It was possible to verify that even if the individual differs from their family of origin in some aspects, there is no way to completely get rid of this heritage.
