A representação da figura feminina em contos populares e em narrativas infantis contemporâneas

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the evolution of female representation in popular tales and contemporary productions. From a feminist perspective, it presents the gender issues present in the short stories "Maria Gomes" and "A Rainha e as Irmãs", from the book Contos Tradicionais do Brasil, by Luís da Câmara Cascudo, and in the contemporary books Pretinha de Neve e os Sete Gigantes, by Rubem Filho, and A Princesa Baixinha, by Beatrice Masini and Octavia Monaco. Based on the analysis of female characters, it describes the main aspects of narrative innovation in contemporary children's literature, compared to the female representation of traditional tales. It concludes that the practice of deconstructing the representation of the female figure in traditional tales is something emancipatory and which must be deepened by the contemporary tale through the role of the protagonists, the analysis of ethnic-racial issues, the critical reinvention that allows assuming and understanding the meanings of children's literature, the female and male roles in this context, their characters and their cultural and social function.
