O imaginário do gaúcho nos poemas modernistas de Tyrteu Rocha Vianna

Abstract

This dissertation analyzes the construction of the imaginary surrounding the gaúcho and the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Saco de Viagem, first published in 1928 by Tyrteu Rocha Vianna, through the symbols present in the poems and their relations to the literary, political, and social context of the early twentieth century. Considering the context of Modernism in Rio Grande do Sul, strongly marked by the persistence of regionalist and symbolist traits, the study investigates Tyrteu?s poetics, whose production more intensely approaches the aesthetic proposals of the European avant-gardes, especially Futurism. The research discusses how the work represents the figure of the gaúcho, rural and urban life, and the social transformations of the period, thereby highlighting, through the study of the characteristics of Futurism and the symbols of the social imaginary, issues related to modernization, social inequalities, political disputes, and moral values present in the society of Rio Grande do Sul. The study is grounded in the theory of the social imaginary, particularly through the contributions of Bronislaw Baczko, Michel Maffesoli, Gilbert Durand, Cornelius Castoriadis and Juremir Machado da Silva. This is a bibliographical study based on interpretative analysis and also supported by studies on Modernism, Regionalism, Futurism, and the literature of Rio Grande do Sul.
