O presente estudo tem como objetivo compreender a construção do imaginário dos anos 1980 pela análise da direção de arte, especialmente na série Stranger Things. A pesquisa é dividida em três focos principais: primeiro- a discussão dos conceitos de imaginário e a sua relevância para a construção de universos em produções audiovisuais, a abordagem da nostalgia e o resgate dos anos 1980; segundo- as definições de direção de arte e o papel do profissional para o desenvolvimento dos materiais audiovisuais; e por último a análise da série Stranger Things focada nos aspectos envolvendo a construção do imaginário dos anos 1980 a partir da direção de arte. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho foi utilizado como base inicial a pesquisa bibliográfica e após, ao final, a análise de imagens fílmicas. Após o estudo, conclui-se sobre a importância da direção de arte na série em questão. É possível entender de que forma certos elementos são utilizados nos cenários, compõe os personagens, para que assim seja possível a criação do imaginário oitentista na série Stranger Things. Além disso, foi possível entender que a série é construída como uma forma de homenagem aos anos 1980, trazendo não uma cópia de uma época, mas sim uma releitura da mesma, que conversa, especialmente a partir da direção de arte, com as gerações atuais. Resumo
This study aims to understand the construction of the 1980s imaginary through the analysis of art direction, especially in the Stranger Things series. The research is divided into three main focuses: first - the discussion of imaginary concepts and their relevance for the construction of universes in audiovisual productions, the nostalgia approach and the recovery of the 1980s; second- the definitions of art direction and the role of the professional in the development of audiovisual materials; and finally, the analysis of the Stranger Things series focused on aspects involving the construction of the 1980s imaginary from art direction. For the development of this work, bibliographic research was used as an initial basis and after, at the end, the analysis of film images. After the study, it is concluded about the importance of art direction in the series in question. It is possible to understand how certain elements are used in the scenarios, compose the characters, so that the creation of the eighties imaginary in the Stranger Things series is possible. In addition, it was possible to understand that the series is built as a form of homage to the 1980s, bringing not a copy of an era, but a reinterpretation of it, which talks, especially from the art direction, with current generations.
