Entre a inteligência e a intuição: o lugar da cooperação em Bergson

Abstract

The thesis investigates the place of cooperation in the philosophy of the contemporary french thinker Henri Bergson, starting from the inadequacy of contractarian approaches. In the first moment, under the reading of "Matter and Memory" (1896), the research demonstrates that cooperation is not a mere evocation of habits or memories, but a conscious and intuitive result that emerges from mutual discernment and the creative projection of indeterminate futures. Next, considering "Creative Evolution" (1907), it is argued that the élan vital metaphysically grounds cooperation as a tension between instinct and intelligence: while intelligence tends toward isolation, repetition, and automatism, intuition, that is, instinct becomes conscious, opens the human being to creative becoming and to profound solidarity with the Whole of life. Finally, the analysis of "The Two Sources of Morality and Religion" (1932) reveals that cooperation is not to be confused with the social obligation of closed societies, but manifests itself as a supra-intellectual emotion and a loving openness, whose supreme example lies in the mystical intuition of figures such as Jesus Christ. Thus, it is concluded that cooperating is a free and creative act that transcends contracts and duties, rooting itself in the vital movement of consciousness which, by overcoming intelligent closure, participates in universal fraternity and the unpredictable becoming of existence.
